Hi, this series of questions smells like homework and makes me wonder what other ways you tried to find the answer? We certainly welcome your questions, but we try to make you work a bit, too. For example, Google on "java upcast downcast" took me right to Thinking In Java, an excellent online book that you should bookmark today. See if that chapter answers your questions. If not, come tell us why.
