I'm trying to set the path variable in order to run javac. According to the instructions on the java website, I am to "Start the system editor".
What is that?

Are you running Windows 98? If so, I think this is the System Configuration Editor (sysedit), which you would use to edit autoexec.bat.

Thank you for the advice. Actually, this computer has a Japanese operating system, so I checked out the installation instructions on Sun's Japanese web pages. As soon as I read the Japanese instructions I understood immediately, because the names of files, etc. are different on a Japanese computer.
