Welcome to JavaRanch!

The PATH looks correct, and the CLASSPATH should not be a concern for you (leave it alone). When you save in TextPad, are you selecting "Java (*.java)" for for type?

File name:
Save as type: Java (*.java)

If so, and it's still not working, then could you post the error messages are you getting?

Also, are you able to compile and run using something other than TextPad (for example, NotePad)?

(I just downloaded and tested TextPad, and it worked fine for me without any special configuration.)

Leave CLASSPATH unset. Certainly don't set it to the bin directory of your JDK or JRE installation.

If you leave it unset, Java will automatically look in the current directory for class files.
