A few from memory:-
  • About 600 new classes in the API; the two most likely to appeal to beginners are java.util.Scanner and java.util.Formatter.
  • Autoboxing
  • The foreach loop (for String s : stringArray), maybe emulating C#
  • static import
  • using the add() method in JFrame rather than getContentPane().add() and by far the most important
  • Generics.
