I am just getting started and have installed the J2SE SDK. Two questions, It is suggested that I add an entry to my PATH environment variable that points to the BIN directory so when I type % javac at the command line my terminal will know how to find the compiler. So where do I enter this PATH to my BIN directory? Second, Will I be able to code in notepad on my XP OS? Thank-You.
Yes, you can certainly code using NotePad, or any other text editor you choose. If using NotePad, be sure that when you save, the file type is "All Files" and you add the .java extension to your filename. [ August 06, 2006: Message edited by: marc weber ]

As Chetan Raju said you can go to environment variables and add the path, but, don't disturb if you have one. if have one select edit and in the variable value: at the end add a ';' and type the new java path.
else you can give the new value as "%path%;<the new path>"
