I assume you mean "build" and "deploy".

Generally, build involves compiling and linking code and packaging the results for deployment.

Deploy means to copy the output of the build process to a place where it can be executed.

You keep buiding until you get something that is deployable.

Hello,

Build means making something ready to deploy.

Mostly the build contains:
-------------------------
1) Source compile,
2) Making jar, EAR, WAR.
3) Cleaning and re compiling.

In Unix world we used to call make the source, in java we habituated to call build the application.
