I just bought this laptop and java was already loaded.
After setting my path to include the bin directory I tried to compile
a pgm and received 'JAVAC is not recognized as an internal or external command,.

Next I open the bin directory to check for JAVAC and it dosent exist.
What should I do?

Thanks, Patrick

Your laptop included the JRE not the JDK. You should go to http://java.sun.com and download the JDK which includes developer tools like the compiler.

...and be sure to follow the installation instructions -- especially the step about setting the PATH variable.
