XP and a console window......

I just installed the most current JDK on my new system, which I inherited from my son. It runs XP. When I set my development environment up on my old system, using Windows 98, I put the java folder directly on my C drive. XP doesn't seem to want me rummaging around in the C drive, so I installed the java stuff in the ProgramFiles directory, as it prompted me to do. It seems XP has trust issues. Fine. We'll do it that way if it makes XP happy.
On my old system, I could pull up a console window using the MS-DOS icon in the Start menu. XP doesn't have one. I'd like to try compiling the Hello World app, but I can't figure out how to open a console in XP.
Can anyone helpme out here?

The newer JDKs install into c:\program files\java instead of c:\.

To get to a command prompt, go to Start, Run, and type cmd enter, and you'll get the command prompt.

If I remember correctly, the Command Prompt is under All Programs > Accessories. You can make a shortcut from there.

Okay, I'm learning to navigate XP a little bit. It's tricky, but I've managed to get Hello World to run! Thanks, you guys!

You can put stuff in C: or anywhere else you like in Windows XP, just like in Windows 98.
