Or does this movie seem be a social critique?

How can you not love the scene when they try to stop the Zombie couple by throwing LPs at them, only to have the LPs shatter on the Zombie's thick heads?

Shaun of the Dead was a good movie, although it tailed off towards the end in the pub. I dont think it was supposed to be social commentary, more a homage to George Romeros Dead trilogy, especially the original Dawn of the Dead.

If you like that kind of humour, Id recommend picking up "Spaced" on DVD. It features most of the cast of Shaun, and its a whole lot funnier to boot as well!

If the movie is based on the Romero films, both Night of the Living Dead (racism, destruction of the family, Vietnam, failure of the government) and Dawn of the Dead (consumerism) were social commentaries.
