Getting Started - Legally

There are books to help get started (Java Actually appears to be a good one), documentation from Sun and other about the APIs (reading that stuff is a trick) and everything else, but where can one find example code using these classes? I have seen the applets on Java Ranch but am looking for a few more.

You mentioned Sun's API documentation, but have you seen their Java Tutorial?

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
