Please help me out,why and when should I use enumerations?what are the benefits?

There is also an old interface called java.util.Enumeration. Generally you shouldn't use this anymore, unless you find some other code that forces you to use it. This is completely different from the enums that marc is pointing you towards - I don't know which thing you actually mean here.
