I would like to see some sort of reward at the end of each "school". Personally I think giving a certificate at the end of each "school" is going to far.
Marilyn was thinking of a sort of sticker "reward" and once you've passed all assignments you simply stick the stickers on the signed certificate. I think a cloth badge that you stick on might be classier. (Heck I can put the cloth badge on my cap till I get the certificate, which might be years from know at the
rate I'm submitting assignments )
Paul thinks the certificate should be virtual. I agree there should be a virtual certificate as well. On the physical certificate one can put a mesg "Certificate can be verified on www.javaranch.com/certificate" (or something like that) to avoid forgeries.
I think a nice t-shirt with old Moosy on and something like "I survived the NITPICK" might also be great. Of course "I survived Marilyn" would be more accurate, but heck her hubby might not like that
I also want to stress that I think the student will have to pay for all of this him/herself. Considering the time and effort Paul, Marilyn, Bill & JC put into this I also think they should be allowed a profit.

How about something official sounding...
JRCJP? Java Ranch Certified Java Programmer?

for me the personal satisfaction is reward enough. however, it would be cool to post the JavaRanch logo on my website with a link... wouldn't that be good advertising for JavaRanch as well?
of course, that is assuming the individual websites are tasteful because in an indirect way JavaRanch would be associated with them.

what?

I like the idea of a virtual certificate with a printable version. It could be useful to some of us newbies when job hunting. Passing the assignments does tend prove a degree of competence and adaptability. I like the shirt idea as well, but that should be an end of the Cattle Drive "reward". I certainly agree that Javaranch and the nitpickers should profit from the shirts.
I also agree with Greg that the satisfaction of learning is a great reward.

Personally I don't see the need. I enjoy just getting the stuff to work. Any degrees or certs I get are not for me but for the people who say I need them to get a job.

I see it more as an advertisement for the Ranch. Not that Marilyn needs more students at the moment.

I think some type of Cattle Drive certification might help in getting a job. It certainly couldn't hurt. It is something to show that you have done some programming that passes professional standards.

Electronic 'reward' is fine for me. Something which prints nicely.

A e-certificate would be cool... and maybe a bumper sticker that says "I got poked on the Java Ranch Cattle Drive!" (in reference to COW POKES... maybe it could say PICKED instead )

I concur with Richard and Peter and Jason ...well maybe not on the bumper sticker idea but a certificate of some sort would be neat!

Well if you were really serious...
and since this is the Java Ranch....

All the little doggies could get BRANDED !!! or a Tatoo with the one-eyed moose on your arm with a CERT number underneath.

Considering the amount off suffering OOP-4 is causing me. I might just put a tatoo of old Moosy somewhere on my body

I would be tickled to get a Java Ranch Cert.
Of course I would like the moose & something about
being a Cow Poke.
I think that it would be more than reasnable
to have the folks who run the ranch make a living
off the cattle drive.
That of course is why we drive cattle.
To get them to Market. ;->

Yea Haw!!!

I think it'd be pretty cool to be able to show, in some form or another, that we went through the drive.
Virtual certificate with cool looking printable sounds good (who knows, it could come in handy).
