Hello... I am new here, and I need to learn Java for my job. I am a database developer and have never touched Java. I dont know where to begin, I dont want to waste my time (which I have very little of) on meaningless things. Did not know if anyone could help me and point me in a direction to get me up to speed quick....

Thanks

Howdy Kipp Planck ,

Welcome to JavaRanch. That's great to see the interest.

You can start off with Sun's Java tutorials. You can see the link in my signature. It will be very crisp and interesting! Of course with examples and tests for each section and/or chapter!

Good luck

When I replied, his name was "Kipp Planck". I wonder what made him update to have a fictitious name!

"Kipp",

Still it does NOT comply with the Ranch's naming policy, which strictly insists the people to have their first and last names separated by a space. The names should be *real*.

You have to update your display name accordingly!

Head First Java is an excellent learning tool for beginners. Be sure to read some excerpts though. Some find the teaching style in this book distracting. But most find it very useful.
