I happened to notice that my ibook is up for 16 straight days and 22:04 hours !! Meanwhile my wife restarts her dell x300 more than 2 times a day - whenever the wireless signal changes and also at times when it does not wake up from hibernation.

Now the show-offs please stand up !!

IMHO,I never found such problem in HP and IBM laptops.
BTW i never tried it..but i remember IBM was working for 5 days and HP for 2 days..

My new PowerBook G4 17" has been up for 10 days 4 hours 21 minutes. I only use it at work and normally shut it down each weekend, but I forgot over Thanksgiving because I didn't work on Friday.

My 1999 PowerBook, which only gets used one evening a week, had been running for over six months before I shut it down while clearing off the dining room table for Thanksgiving.

My Vaio laptop stays up for weeks without reboot. Sometimes it does hibernate. The issue of not coming out of Hibernation is ussually a win 2k/xp problem. There is a fix for it out there (Sorry I dont have time to find it for you at the moment, if you need it let me know and I will find it). As far as the wireless connection going out, that happens alot, esspecially if there is some sort of interference.It can be fixed without a reboot. Run ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew at the command prompt, or go to the wireless network manager to reconnect. Macs utilize memory better than windows, so they dont need to reboot as often.

Yup, the only point thats stopping me from using my Dell Inspiron 8200 as a room heater for cold winter nights is the noice those fans make!

Not sure how long precisely (don't have it with me since the battery is dead so I can't move it without turning it off ) but my old Toshiba has not been turned off since I installed Ubuntu on it sometime early October or late September.

Before that it had been running continuously on Windows 2000 for over half a year.

My HP Pavilion (XP SP2) laptop is a bear. It only sporadically wakes up from hibernation. I'm sure there's a probability algorithm involved here somehow.

My VAIO generally only stays up for about 8 hours at a time -- although it not the VAIO's fault. I frequently move around and take it with me, so I intentionally shut it down and move it. (Also, its battery is nearing the end of its useful life -- I can only get about 30 minutes out of it these days...)

I feel for you Joel. I threw my battery into the chemical waste when it wouldn't even boot from battery any more.

I did now find a place selling replacement batteries and am thinking of ordering one (or maybe 2 to have a spare), but boy are they expensive.

I usually buy them over ebay, and yes I am fully aware of the risks, but I bought them (two Dell Inspiron batteries) for half the price of one in the local stores, and they have been serving me very less for last year or so!

too risky for me. It's an out of production model laptop so most used batteries on eBay would be in the same state as mine...
The local eBay is useless (too small, only overpriced crap) and shipping cost from abroad is insane (plus I refuse to give paypal my financial data, I don't trust them, so I can't bid on most things anyway).
