Guys,

Everytime when I try to download the API, my download hangs. Is there any problem? I'm trying from the following location,

https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewFilteredProducts-SingleVariationTypeFilter;pgid=yYdgaHqkkjVSR0EUPIQsoQ3D0000YIwlvQ3K;sid=2jcndFlH2J0ncBHDb6pvcbbg0i04iZQCj9XotURZghJD1A==

Jothi,

I've tried here and it is working, however my URL looks different from yours:

http://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/VerifyItem-Start/jdk-6-doc.zip?BundledLineItemUUID=JclIBe.oeFsAAAEbd70_S0Zx&OrderID=1U1IBe.odWYAAAEbbL0_S0Zx&ProductID=pb7ACUFB2NsAAAEY08A5AXuR&FileName=/jdk-6-doc.zip

Anyway, since there are steps to inform your language and agree to their license, I think the best way to download is navigating from their site (instead of using a direct URL):

I was trying to download JDK 1.5 and you are trying to download JDK 1.6. But i'm looking for JDK 1.5 doc.

But both seems not to be working for me.

Well, the URL for 5.0 download is also different from yours:

http://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/VerifyItem-Start/jdk-1_5_0-doc.zip?BundledLineItemUUID=tH5IBe.o_0QAAAEb.ms_S0at&OrderID=FjdIBe.of74AAAEb6Ws_S0at&ProductID=EHbACUFBrJ8AAAEYWlA5AXuI&FileName=/jdk-1_5_0-doc.zip

Anyway, both are working for me. Perhaps you have network / firewall / proxy problems?

Don't know. Try here. If that doesn't work, you may have connection problems

That didn't work either. What bemuses me is I'm able to download every other thing but not the API which I badly want to install in my Laptop.

Don't know. Sorry. When I went to the API download page I got as far as here, but there are passwords embedded in that website, so it probably won't work for you.

Get a friend to download it and stick it on a USB stick or a CD.

Raymond's link works just fine for me. But why do you need a Java 5.0, 1.4 or 1.3 JDK? These are all hopelessly outdated.

Three years ago, I wrote:. . . Try here. . . .
That site still opens for me, but I agree with Rob that it is out of date.

I don't think you could find the api doc for earlier releases on Oracle.

You may want to get those from http://www.allimant.org/javadoc/index.php
Or you could use some software to "scan" URL and download for you (e.g. HTTrack).

Let's take a step back. What is the goal of this "conversion"? Code developed for earlier JDK versions should run on JDK 6 just fine. (And you should not use any earlier JDK version at this point; as Rob said, they're all obsolete.)

If you need the Javadocs, they are actually still all online. All you have to do is go to the latest (http://download.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/) and change the number:
http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.3.1/docs/api/
http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/
http://download.oracle.com/javase/5/docs/api/
http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/
(there's some redirection going on, but you'll end up at the right spot)
