I remember we were talking about this a while back. I was able to dig up some stats for the last 10 days of december for the JR www server (not saloon, or our other servers):

1 2195083 62.09% MSIE 6
2 550994 15.59% Mozilla/5
3 458961 12.98% Java/1.4.1_03
4 203550 5.76% MSIE 5
5 32278 0.91% Mozilla/3.01 (compatible
6 19521 0.55% Mozilla/4
7 11768 0.33% Opera/7
8 9508 0.27% ColdFusion
9 8192 0.23% Mozilla/4.0 (compatible
10 5017 0.14% Konqueror/3

Is mozilla/5 the same as firefox?

Im surprised that Safari doesnt feature in those stats - or does it report itself as Konqueror (since Safari is based off Konqueror)?

Yes, my copy of FireFox provides the following version info:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040707 Firefox/0.9.2

Apparently Mozilla/5 includes Firefox 1.0. It also includes Mozilla 1.7.4. At least, that's what it tells me when I view the Help -> About links on those two browsers. I guess the 5.0 thing is an engine shared by both browsers.

I dunno about those statistics though - what's this?

3 458961 12.98% Java/1.4.1_03

What's special about that version of Java, that it accounts for 13% of our web traffic, while other versions of Java don't appear at all?

I betcha that's the imageServlet that we use to count banner ads. It's the servlet container on the local machine grabbing images from the web server.
