Hi
i am only a PC User and hope someone can help me.

I find that I have a rather large volume of Java Software occupying space in my Disk.

The programs are :

Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 134 MB
Java 6 Update 7 114 MB
Java 6 Update 5 114 MB
Java 6 Update 3 111 MB

I am not aware of the precise function of each of the above programs.

I am keen to identify what exactly is needed on the PC and why.

I would alos like to safely remove any of the above which are not essential and without impairing the functionality of the PC.

Kindly advise.

Thanks.

ps. If I have posted this on the wrong Forum, please tell me where I should post the query.
Thank you.

I might have advised you but I detest cross posters. Was this matter so vital that you couldn't wait for a response on one forum?

And there's a very good answer in that thread too.

To be fair, there is nothing in the JavaRanch policies that states that crossposting to other sites is forbidden. All we want is that you mention that it is so, so that users can check to see if the question has already been answered...

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
