Hi,

Liferay 5.1.2 has great features. You can find portal comparison at following link.

JBOSS Portal vs Liferay Portal

Liferay provides SDK and Extension environment for portlet development.

Do you mean you want to create a website? Thats a pretty broad question. You will need to register a domain name. Depending on what sort of site you want (simple back end db, e-commerce etc) and what technologies you will employ, you will need to rent (or buy) one (or more) of many different types of webserver to host it. You will need to consider bandwidth. The list goes on. I would suggest buying a book or two about starting web businesses. You could also employ a company to take care of all that for you. Its something far beyond the capabilities of Yahoo Answers I'm afraid.

Hi,

You do not need to learn struts for working Portal. Although all Portals provides supports for Struts, but
you can also create Portlets without struts or using any other Framework like JSF,Spring MVC.

Hi Vikas,

I am new to Portal and Portlets development and wanted some advice on what would be the best practice to approach it. I would really appreciate if you could share some information and also point me to some good resources online or recommend some books for the same.

Thanks.
