I am from Chennai. If I was to live in India, that would be my only choice!(Although I do admit, it has it's share of negative things..)

My husband swears Pune is the best (he says the girls there are the prettiest )

So... Let the contest begin...

They may be pretty, but they swear a lot. The real ladies are all in Chennai.

Wat ?! Nobody for Bangalore ?

From the sample I have seen from Pune so far, Kayal, I must second your husband's opinion.

I love Chennai, but that's only because I spent all my childhood summer holidays there Could someone move those terrible auto-drivers from there

Iam from Chennai as well and happen to love this place. I've been in north for quite sometime and none of my friends there , NONE , had anything gud to say about Chennai , sad though, except for the beach. Most of the times, the complaint was about auto drivers ( something to be done about this ). Almost everyone of them had run in to trouble with these drivers. And the next issue..LANGUAGE..it sometime feels funny to hear my friends say, no body would want to respond in English, even if they know English !!! ( I remember my neighbourhood MAAMI ( barely a 10th class ) talking to us ( with all her might ) in English , although she could talk in Agmark Tamil ) . Point is , if they know English, ofcourse they'll answer in English. Since Hindi penetration is not good in the whole state, people from North feel very much out of place and they are always scared to travel interiors; All they know is ooty, kodaikanal and madurai , apart from Chennai. we've been all over India with not much of trouble, inspite of the fact that my husband and me can barely talk Hindi. Overall point i would like to make is CHENNAI IS A GOOD PLACE TO BE ( and will always be my personal choice ).

Because of the policians in this state, Hindi is not being forced as a mandatory language in schools. Because of this, most of the north Indians hesitate to come to Chennai. I was in Delhi for couple of years. I hesitated to come to Chennai. After coming here, I find things are not bad. Things are changing in Chennai. English is becoming more popular. I love to be in Chennai.

Oh, I can say I like Bangalore auto drivers, if I had to compare them with Chennai ones ( Aside : Bangalore auto drivers send me away laughing because most of them are bent upon conversing in English inspite of I saying things in Kannada! )
Every time I am forced to take an auto in Chennai, I end up feeling that I must be the most evil thing in the world for having haggled with the fellow and forced him to go where I want and not where he wants

Chennai people not speaking English ?! I don't believe that one.

Beware!! This may lead to another hijacking of this thread, diverting it to another "Indian cities - Pretty girls wise pi**sing" contest.

because IMHO pretty as well as real girls are in New Delhi.

Chennai auto is not an issue anymore. You have pre paid taxis - which costs a little more than autos, fair and prompt. You get them at airports, railway stations. In fact they have fixed rates fir airport drops, railway station drops etc.

Now with Pune, I found that its hard to find non-veg restaurants. Its the other way round but I could feel how a pure veggan would have felt when he/she is in US looking for a place to eat. Probably I havent explored Pune enough.

I guess auto drivers in Chennai must give a real bad deal to outsiders.

I am friendly with many many local auto drivers (having used them for about 7 years for most of my education/work commuting). I usually (not always) follow a rule: bargain down a flat rate based on the distance, and then offer them a few rupees over it. Although, I can be accused of being a spendthrift, I always (no exceptions ) get to enjoy good conversation ranging from politics to movies to culture erosion among youngsters, and a safe journey to my destination.

Nowadays there are many share-autos. These are a good option for folks who don't want to get crushed in a bus, or spend lots of money on an auto.
For about 10-15 rupees, one can travel from one end of the city to the other end without much hassles.

Yes. Pune is the best. Small town, with a very diverse cosmopolitan population. Of late it has become very happening too, what with all the new discotheques/ pubs that have opened up. And it does not have Bangalore's stupid 10.30 deadline rule. People from Mumbai actually travel all the way to Pune on weekends to party...... n yes .. the girls are the prettiest in Pune ...

Ok, enough drooling about the pretty girls!
I wonder which city has the good looking guys?
I have seen some "hip" guys in B'lore. But hip doesn't necessarily translate to handsome!

You should ask the people who have been robbed. They are saints during day and when it is night... I hope you know about some bad incident that happened in Bangalore couple of days back.

There some things that I like about bangalore, and some that I don't like.
One example of what I don't like is the cultural deterioration. Got a chance to go to the Pink Floyd concert held there, and man, the things I got to see...!

Young girls, young boys, not one of them would have been over 18, the clothes, the clothes that they changed into inside the concert, the language, the booze, cigarettes, the cigarettes filled with weed, pot, and heaven knows what else, and the casual attitude with which the girls changed the stuffing in the cigarettes. My eyes fairly popped out of their sockets

Give me conservative Chennai with its heat anyday Atleast I can hide myself in airconditioned cars, offices and homes.

In a Pink Floyd show, hmm.. if I am not wrong that was in 2002 summer..

What type of crowd were you expecting in "Pink Floyd" show ??

And if that was too much for you then FYI Pune is much ahead of in all these things... Pune is not favorite just like that

And best thing, all these things were ban in that show

I wouldn't want to sterotype a person who listens to Pink Floyd to be of any particular kind.

But yes, this was in 2002. I understand things like these exist in every city. What shocked me was the "normalcy"...

And Oh, both my parents like Delhi and Calcutta. Having never been there, I can't comment...

I guess many will agree when I say that a good place to chill out and enjoy would be Goa?

I can never expect crowd sitting on sofa/chairs peacefully and just clapping after every Floyd's song. What you saw was pretty normal.

This can be found in most cities in India. If people dont smoke they will be called backward. Who wants to remain backward?

I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
