Firefox reached 50 million downloads on 29 April, well within 5 months of its 1.0 release.

And its now 75 million
Thats 25,000,000 more downloads in less than 3 months, after the 50 million downloads milestone in April. The 100 million downloads milestone isn't that far away
Here are some facts to help you with a understanding of this huge number:
* 25% of the US population * Over 2 times the population of Canada * 50% of the Russian population * 16% of the population in the European Union * 60% of the Japanise population * 6% of the Chinese population
Of course, many of us downloading it have done so more than once, because there have been new releases since April 29. And we may have more than one computer. Personally I've downloaded it seven times since April 29, between home and work. And I kind of wonder if some of the more rabid Firefox enthusiasts aren't downloading additional copies just because they like to see the numbers go up...

On the other end of the spectrum, I downloaded Firefox once. All my team members (around 20) installed using the copy which I downloaded. I also copied the download in a USB Flash drive, and used that copy to install in my laptop. My friend borrowed my USB Flash drive from me, so that he can install Firefox. I don't know how many times he used it (and I also don't know what happened to my USB Flash Drive )

Now, we know that there is at least one such enthusiast!
Originally posted by Thomas Paul: I'm not sure how many users 20 million downloads mean. I have downloaded it about 10 times. My guess is that it is not widely used even in the geek community because it still represents only a tiny percentage of people who visit JavaRanch (who should be mostly anti-MS geeks).
Since then, he has downloaded two more times but is not using it. Why Tom, why download when you dont use it? ;-)

I download it so I can check to make sure my websites look OK in FireFox. I have it installed on four separate computers.

So, you see nothing to cheer about the 75 million download mark.?

No. As I said in the other thread, all I have seen is that Firefox has replaced Netscape. I have seen no difference in my weekly statistics for the usage of IE.
Download counts mean nothing. Eclipse 3.0 (a Java IDE!) only took 60 days to get to 1 million downloads. Usage in the real world is the only thing that means anything and outside of the anti-MS community, FireFox is getting virtually zero penetration as far as I can tell.
