i've recently realized i would love to go somewhere to see the northern lights. Are there Southern lights? i've never heard of them, but i can't think of an reason why they wouldn't exist. Assuming they're equivilent, either would be good.

This is what I want to do this year: Start by walking across Iceland, travel the entire Arctic Circle, road-trip entire Route 66, Peru, Chili and Incas, climb Mt. Everest and K2, silk route (Tibet, Kashmir, North East China, The Great Wall), Tokyo, swim Great Barrier reef and Australian outback (Ulluru etc), party in Thailand, cross Sahara, safari in Africa, visit South Pole.

Planning the trip to fit it into two weeks of paid holidays is what really worries me!

Northern: Aurora Borialis
Southern: Aurora Australis

By the way, I've seen the Northern Lights as far south as Rochester, New York. My brother had me convinced that what we saw must have been man-made somehow, but then the news the next day reported on them during the weather report. Very cool.
