please tell me what is the difference between checked and unchecked exceptions?

Checked is checked by the compiler (checked that it is being caught and handled), and unchecked (Runtime) is not.

I suggest you read the links above, especially the one to the Java tutorial.
Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
