facing jdk installation problem for windows xp

These are the list of things i did to install the jdk but could not/did not know to run it on the cmd prompt.:
downloaded the jdk-1_5_15-windows-i586-p-iftw as it says on the icon.
gave the install instructions.

Now i am not able to run the programs on the cmd prompt, i also gave the user and system path variables in the system properties as
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_15\bin for the VALUE option as suggested on the sun website for installation

and as JAVA for the name.


but on giving javac at cmd prompt it says javac not an internal or external command.

pl Help ASAP.

Do you mean you created a new environment variable named JAVA? That's not correct.

Append the path to the folder containing the java executables to your PATH variable.
