This week's book giveaway is in the General Computing forum. We're giving away four copies of Arduino in Action and have Martin Evans, Joshua Noble, and Jordan Hochenbaum on-line! See this thread for details.
The instant I met my wife in person, I knew immediately that she was the one. Never a doubt. We have been married for 5 years. Well, in 15 days it will be 5 years.

I am sure either u r in love with a girl or u just brokeup. Am i right ??
But I mean quite confused how you guys thought that you are for another.
Cheers, Rahul
We just both knew. It really wasn't this over the top thing. It was just this knowing, without a doubt, and without a big being overwhelmed thing. Tough to explain.

Balaji what I am saying is I have neither fallen in luv nor did u broke up in past.
Umm.. no. It is one of the first hits you get when you enter "true love computer" in Google.
Anywho. Let me be serious for a second; I agree with Mark on this subject. How do you know, that you and your spouse are ment for each other? you just do - it feels right.
You say you've never been in love, or believe you ever will be. You have to put yourself in the position - you have to take a risk. As we say in Denmark: You can take the horse to the water jug, but you can't make it drink. [ June 09, 2005: Message edited by: Svend Rost ]

Svend,
Thanks but you know what I think I can never fall in love. Rest let the time tell this.
"Mark - Can you please try to explain this as to how you guys came to know that you are made for each other."
That is what I tried to say in my last post, there is no "How", it just happens. Some might might place it on some higher power/being, beyond the knowing. It just is.
Today is my 21st wedding anniversary (June 10th... I'n in NY so it is after midnight). Through all the good times and the bad times I couldn't dream of life without my wife. [ June 09, 2005: Message edited by: Thomas Paul ]

We can only identify true love and know when we have found it. When we match our relationships and we are honestly prepared to make a life-long commitment to that person -- then we can say that we are truly "in love."

In that case, count me in as weak.... but you know what? I don't think its all that bad. Sometimes a little emotional vulnerability is a good thing - a "strong" emotional state is often a rigid and inflexible one.
Imagine two trees, an oak tree and a willow tree. Which one is stronger? The oak is the first answer that comes to mind. It is solid, unmoving, hard, strong. The willow, on the other hand, is a floppy weak looking thing.
Along comes a big storm. As the winds blow around the trees, the strong oak is inflexible, and gets blown over. The willow bends and wobbles, looses most of its leaves, but remains in place.
Love is a bit like that - it may make you emotionally more "weak", but in that long term that gives a deeper strength to deal with life's storms. Its pretty cool really
There will be glitches in my transition from being a saloon bar sage to a world statesman. - Tony Banks
I think love must be true. Otherwise it would be false. And the false love means no love, but something else. Or is there anything between true love and false love?
May be just love. then can we say love as half true, half false?

Dave, I liked your analogy. Pretty true. The one thing people world over yearn for...always is love. Even those who part ways only leave the person behind, not the love. Love goes on forever...
But when it comes to marriage some are successful, some are not. In order to make marriage a success, lots of things have to be compromised. But what is beautiful about love is, the more you give, the more you get it.
I myself had a strong feeling or whatever you call, that as soon as I saw my wife's photo, I knew it was her. Never a doubt again!!! (Arranged marriages in India start with trading each other's photos). That way I feel I am lucky. [ June 10, 2005: Message edited by: Raghav Sam ]

Why everybody is considering only one type of true love? Can't there be a love between mother and son or mother and daughter ?
Arjun - you know what the direction of the discussion is perfectly fine. Thats what I am trying to undertand. Love between two strangers.
And now Ajay, I hope you must have understood what I am trying to understand. TRUE LOVE.
Shalini - You seem to allready in Love ! Am I right ? I know I am.
Guys, U know what till date i think I haven't found my love, maybe thats the reason I don't know the meaning of this.
2 years ago I would have responded to the question that started this thread by saying that I agreed. I never believed in love at first sight and I believed that you could never really know you had found you true love. there would always be doubt.
31 October 2003 - I met Neil - fell completely in love immediately and knew then that we were meant to be.
If I'm honest, it scared me to death because I had no control over it whatsoever, it just happened, and I couldn't understand where all these feelings were coming from. We live 200 miles apart and yet we still fall more in love each day and I simply can't imagine my life without him now.
It's not something that's easy to describe, it really does just happen and it can totally knock you off your feet, in a good way

Lucky You..Angela!! I can relate to that...in Love right now, and loving it
I think one sign of true love is that it makes a difference in your life, and your partner's life (for better of course ). If your life continues to be the same, after you fall in love, then it is probabely something else ...

Hi Rahul,
Yes its a bit clearer now. I would still go back to my first reply
True love is the state you are in when you put in 100% into a relation(I would now add SELFLESSLY) and do not expect any returns
Relation in a broader sense could be a relative, friend, stranger, a hobby, a principle, a desire, a passion or a ------ (each person has his own thing that he/she would add in the blanks) A person who works in the java space to make money is doing it for the love of money. A person who does it rise up in the corporate ladder is doing it for position. There are many who do it just for the love of JAVA. Etc. That is a geeks way to see true love. A person who does it for the combination of the above is just in love and not true love for any. When you see a gal and fall in love its generally some physical aspect thats triggering love. When you hear of chat love its generally the communication. Or when u hear something about a person and feel the cupids arrow then its generally some action or behavior of the person. The cause for falling in love is different for each person and so is the life of true love. Some people stay in true love till they die, some transit it to an adjustment relation and some keep rolling in the cycle of love (occasionally hitting true love). So Rahul, I would suggest to start identifying (on an ongoing process) the Relation you like. Try to add more personal contributions into it and I think you will get the feeling yourself. Cheers Jay

Hi Angela, Im happy for you and Neil. I was in a similar boat, met a girl couple of yrs back, been with her for few weeks then she went back to her country. Experimented with other gals but was always pulled back to her. As time went by our love grew even though we physically met only for a few weeks after the first meeting. Hardly anyone could understand our bonding. Guess it was because of the distance, cultural difference etc. Now we are married and yes finding that every new day opens more reasons to love each other more. I wish it never changes. Finally a smartass once said dont fall in love rise in it Cheers Jay
just my share....true is not pure heart, it has mind too

Indeed, its one of those things which proves that emotions aren't constrained by the Law Of Conservation - two people put a bit in each and they get an awful lot more out of it

I knew too many. That was the problem.
I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to
