Ernest , thanks I have book marked it , but how does the search works ?
How to map our site to the key words in search, so that it come first.
i have heard we have to play with meta tags . Can any one throw light on this.

Are you asking how to make your site show up first under a certain google search?

If so, it's not possible to force your way to the top (although it's been tried). The generally accepted theory goes that if you have the keywords in your meta tags, the keywords appear in the main text, and there are alot of external links to your site you will be ranked higher in a google search. There may also be something to the relative location of the search keywords to each other (if more than one keyword is used).

AFAIK, the exact ranking method used by google is kept pretty secret and for good reason.

That changed this week. Don't know why.

I search Google for it a couple times every week even though I have it bookmarked. I first noticed the change yesterday morning.

Grrrrr.

I think Eric knew that.
If you want to see the real page just delete the pigeonrank.html portion from the url.

Personally I found it hilarious.

Yes I observed that too about Java api search...

Personally I dont like google ending up doing that. Thats not something I like. I have started to use yahoo search in parallel at times...I wish google can stick to good results..for sometime I have been feelings its giving not so relavent results...No proof I have..its just feeling I had over sometime..

Google cares little about the results it returns as long as it returns a good amount of advertising income.

I'd not be surprised if sites displaying Googleads are automatically ranked higher than sites that don't for example (and of course sites buying adwords are always ranked higher than sites that don't and there's little or no control whether the adwords you buy are relevant enough, which has led to lawsuits when companies bought their competitors' names as adwords).

With no particular knowledge on how google sorts the results all I can suggest is based on the assumption that google has some intelligence towards the hit rate is as follows
Write a routine that automatically simulates search in google and clicks on to your site. Put it in a loop and your hit rate will increase. This is quite easy and I am sure people in the other forums can help you.
