Ive obviously searched on google for this and flipped through both HeadFirst JSP and servlets and the SCWCD exam kit (Manning)(Himesh Deshmukh ?).
A lot of people suggest the headfirst book, however I find that book to be covering a lot of basics too. and Mannings book is pretty decent as an exam study.
None of the google results for this search suggest the Manning SCWCD book.

I was wondering if someone could give me advice on which book to prepare from, for SCWCD considering I have some experience in professional web development.

thanks

I prefer HFSJ book is the best to get concepts and pass the SCWCD easily.

If you can, take a look at my book as I think someone "more experienced" would find it beneficial. Details in the signature or on the Amazons.

I think it is wrong for an Author to use this forum to push his own book

A debate is inappropriate and I will not engage into one. I will however explain why it is my belief that all such posts are beneficial. I believe it is right for people to be informed of all the options available so they can make their own decisions. Independent thought is most important. The OP states he finds HFSJ quite "beginner" for his needs, but is more comfortable with the traditional textbook style of Manning. The more advanced niche he looks for is that covered by my book and I am confident that it would act to educate and inform in the manner intended. I am not recommending the book as I am not impartial, but I have a firm belief that once potential readers have all the options at their disposal, they have the intelligence and will do the research necessary to make up their own minds (for example, by investigating other reader's reviews). By and large, authors write books because they want to contribute to the field in which they write, helping people to understand, develop and enrich their knowledge. That is precisely the same reason I spend my time helping others with a wide variety of their problems on the Ranch. Here, I am trying to help the OP in making their own decision; if they choose to ignore me totally, I will not complain and I certainly won't "push it" further.

I will not engage in any further discussion on this issue and I trust Christophe will moderate this thread if he feels any of its content is inappropriate. However, I think it is wrong not to inform people of the options available, or to insinuate that people who ask questions here are incapable of making their own decisions.

Good luck to the OP with whatever he chooses (P.S. you may also find the SCWCD Links useful in the unlikely event you haven't seen it already ).

The way Charles has written, "I think it is wrong not to inform people of the options available, or to insinuate that people who ask questions here are incapable of making their own decisions." I totally agree with this.

Authors are not forbidden not promote their books at JavaRanch, as long as they don't over promote. Anybody having any issue with this, please start a new thread at the JavaRanch forum. Here, a rancher would like to use a book other than HFSJ. Charles' book has been recommended by other ranchers, his help is appreciated, I don't see why he could not point Mike toward his book.

Yes. I didnt find anything wrong with Charles talking about his book.
Anyway, I think I will be going with the Manning book.
The Headfirst doesnt even say it is meant for SCWCD.
I think its like reading Headfirst java instead of Headfirst SCJP for SCJP. I would have flunked the SCJP if I didnt read HF SCJP

cheers..
