Easy!
The one on the cover of "Head First Design Patterns". Oooooohhh mamma!

What an awful, stressful job it must have been for Bert to pick all the girls for those little photos and cartoons...

So what are other people's favourites? Please state book title and page #.

LOL, this is a topic I wasn't expecting. The cover girl from the Design Patterns book is OK... if you like blonds . Since I prefer brunettes, I would have to go with the attitude girl that is in all of the HF books. You know the one, long brown hair, dressed in black pants, jacket, and white shirt, and ALWAYS complaining about something.

"Wait, before we get to do that we need this setChanged() method? We didn't need that before..." (HF Design Patterns, p 66)

Course, her attitude would probably drive me to drinking within minutes...

You just made my whole month Jason!

Now what is it that you want...

A lot of people like "skeptical girl" (AKA "cranky girl"), but we're not giving out her phone number.

And hey -- let's not be sexist here -- HALF of our Head First books do have guys on the cover. Doesn't anyone appreciate the EJB guy? Elaine? Anyone? : )

I'm hoping some of the other HF authors will jump in here. The next HF book is Dave Wood's OO book, and he's trying to pick the cover right now. He's still devastated over losing "pig tail" girl to the Design Patterns book.

Cheers everyone.

Well, if the biker couple has tattoos, in a round about way that would be a good choice. You know... tattoos... design patterns... get it?

I love the pigtails girl since she's on the cover of my book :-)

Dave picked a brunette for his book so all you brunette lovers out there will be happy.

For quite a while the Design Patterns pigtail girl was on a billboard along my way to work, so she's my favorite by virtue of constantly seeing her. 8^)

Hope you didn't ruin it for anybody.

My hunch is you'll never see a male on another HF cover.
We're not picking it because it's sexy. We're picking it because sexiness is part of what makes it a better product!

Compare the HeadFirst cover stragey with the Wrox cover strategy. Whoever at Wrox decided they would put a photo of the real live geek authors on the cover of each book deserves to be shot. Some of those covers are enough to make you lose your lunch.

I say the next cover should be pigtail girl, spectacle girl and attitude girl together in a paddling pool with bikinis on. Sweet. I'll buy the damn thing whatever it is.

Ha ha ha that thread's funny.

I actually thought of a way for Amazon to make a little more cash:

when you buy an I.T./Geek book there is a little "Alternative Cover" option for an extra $/ or something. If you click it you get an alternative dust-jacket sent with your book so instead of being seen reading "Core Hardcore J2EE Fundamentals that Rock!" on the bus you can appear to be reading:

"So you won the Lottery! Now invest it wisely" or
"How to reconcile your job as a Stuntman with your charity work" or
"Movie directing FOR Directors" or
"Too Caring to Love? A thinking mans guide to love in the naughties"

and all that kind of crap women like.

If you haven't seen "The Crying Game" yet, don't read this!!!

This reminds me of a conversation we had at lunch today. It concerned what I have termed "The Crying Game Rule". If, in a movie, the sex between a guy and a girl is... ummm... what this series of books is called, then the girl must be... well... you know...

This is funny...
I travel in train and I read the "Design Patterns" book..
I guess because I'm a blond young girl on high heels holding some strange looking book with word "Design" on it, everyone approaches me with a question: "Are you a designer?", and I always get a laughter back when I say: "No, I'm a Software Engineer". Noone so far took my reply seriously, even after I let them open the book and see it.

But I like the EJB guy:

Oh yeah, Head First EJB. That's the book that says that I'm some sort of exotic dancer ....

People come by my cube "that's a lot of books ya got there ..." and I say "Lookit this one!" (I have a bookmark holding the page) "Ya wouldn't know it to look at me, but apparently I kin dance! Exotically!"
