i feel this can be done to any country, so i am serious thinking about the opportunity regarding this.

Its a six year old company. They have not become rich overnight. But doing business in search engine seems to be a good option. [ August 09, 2005: Message edited by: Arjunkumar Shastry ]

nothing can beat the kind of stuff google is bringing out.
so what do you think the idea of russia/japan/india version of google?
the reason for russia/japan/india is they are non-west country, and big in term of business (present or future).
or germany/france version of google? or uk/australia/canada/europe/asia google?

think about it, you do not have to create another google/yahoo/baidu, all you need to do is to make a name for yourself, then very likely your company will be purchased by the gig ones, and then all you have to do is to roll with it

I dont think that Baidu has competition with Google unless and until Google provides search in Chinese language.
And regarding India, most of the internet user know enough english to stick to google.
I still remember that IndiaTimes.com advertised its site launch as search engine but now they themselves use Google for search. If I am not wrong then rediff still has its own google(read search) engine, but I doubt how many use it and there is any upgradation in their engine.
I think those six people find 100 million internet users without a proper search engine in their langauge. It was an open market and they captured it.
See, what Bazee.com did. It captured the virgin market of India becuase in India nobody is going to pay in dollors what e-bay offered to US part.
And now bazee.com is part of e-bay.
Its all about money and to know about open market.
Wish I had enough money to start a good business for what I have ideas....
Do you know Indian version of Amazon.com ??

www.fabmall.com www.firstandsecond.com I think these guys sell books. Google has alreday started giving service of searching docuuments in major Indian languages:Hindi,Tamil,Marathi,Malayalam etc. IMO,Amazon style companies won't work much here.First, people read here not out of interest but for need.Telecom technologies have certainly improved but why order a book which you can easily get after 15 days in local book store after book is published.

I think perfect search engine is yet to come. For example,if I type 'Dinner in San Paulo',search engine should give me list of restaurents in San Paulo offering special dinner tonight and not some blog of tourist who visited city six months back and ate in some restaurant.
another evidence that china is leading the way over india. with that much software background, you would think india will edge china on internet. but it does not happen that way.

Maybe if you had typed "I want dinner tonight in Sao Paolo" I'd see your point; otherwise, you're really asking the search engine to know what's on your mind. Why shouldn't a book, movie, or sing by that name come up? Because you don't care?
A search in a context-specific engine should do what you ask for, e.g., sfgate.com. Google is far too broad a resource for your expectation.
