When I was collecting the resource for the Beta Exam, I found that the most of books and articles were born before 2003 and became less and less after 2005.

Can we talk about the future of Web Service as we preparing for the exam?

I don't see much of a decrease in writing about WS. The topics have become different since then, because WS have evolved, and there isn't much introductory stuff being written any more, because by know everyone is assumed to know about the basics.

Thankfully, the hype about WS has lessened and people have realized that WS and SOA are not the simple solution to everything they were sometimes made out to be.

This doesn't relate to the exam - however it may provoke some thoughts about the future of web services.
And there still is is room for something like AMQP and/or XMPP
