Regardless of the hype, i felt the overall film between above average and nice.

Aamir khan elevated the film with a great performace. He is gonna take many awards in India.

I am not sure if this film is any of oscar caliber(it might beat some movie colletion records in India). Some aspects of independence movement are captured well.

Some war scenes could have been picturized better.

Over all a 7/10(with Aamir and Toby stephens performance).

These war scenes are the ones that our directors conveniently ignore. In most of the movies they are ludicrous. They hold guns but fight as if they are using sword's.

BTW rediff.com and smashits.com gave it a great and a glowing review.

she may have looks of an angel, but her acting is just ordinary. We have seen better actresses in our industry. She is beauty combined with deft media management. Nothing more than that.

" she may have looks of an angel, but her acting is just ordinary."

You had me at "angel". Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

She plays an opinionated Indian woman in "Bride and Prejudice", a Hollywood meets Bollywood type of romantic comedy.

Average when compared, but interesting to me at least as a Westener since I wanted to see some Indian-influenced movie that had at least some of the West in it. With her in it, of course

I have now rented other movies from the same director as Bride and Prejudice.

She chose not to act in it(after initially giving a ok) since they did not meet her money demands.

I think when she joined, she did not know anything about acting ... but now she has matured herself enough to take any role.

I think, she did superb performance in hum "Dil De Chuke Sanam". In Devdas also she did justice with the role she was playing.

"Pride and Prejudice" is flop in India because it was like any other Bollywood movie. But I can think of overseas viewers. They must be watching a comedy with love and romantic songs after a long time.

And not to forget her dance in "Bunty and Bubly", which is rocking the nation.

AW FYI, I am fan of her.

Dance is really amazing.

But she looks very cheap in that. I can’t believe she doing Item Numbers just for the shake of money. ( Even all incoming calls to her mobile from Salman (and others) are free since very long…lol).

All Bollywood people do anything for money. No mistake there.Aishwarya may be a heart throb of few java programmers here but in reality she is fit in Kamathipura.

Thats why I am saying that she has lerant acting.

Did she look cheap in HDDCS ??

And there is a difference in item number and guest appearacce

And regarding Kamathipura(red light area).. its a place for furstated man to catch his all unfulfilled desires.

I dont understand why would someone be happy if Aishwarya rai is there ?

At the time of HDDCS she was establishing her position in the industry and she was not in a position where she can afford to do cheap Item Number.

But she looks very cheap in that.

By this I mean to say that despite of being considered as an icon of Bollywood at various international stages, she should not do this kind of Item Number (it was not a guest appearance as she was just there for a song and no further appearance other then song) just for the shake of the money.

She was looking cheap in that Item Number as it was demand of the role and you cant complain about it, but one can complain about why she chosen to do such kind of stuff.

True, frustrated man are responsible for all Kamathipuras of the world.

No, I dont think so because she is today heighest paid actress.

I might be wrong, but there are lot of instances where heroines do item numbers or guest appearnace to come in future movies of the same producer/director. Sometimes they do only for the sake of old friendship.

Do you think Rekha needed to do item number in Janbazz.(I am sure that was only Feroz Khan)

Do you think Mamta Kulkarni(where is she now?) needed to do item number in Ghatak. But then she appeared in China Gate as main heroine.

Do you think Shilpa Shetty deserve director like R G Verma. But she got a role in his movie. Remember the item song in Shool.

I am not able to recollect the name of movie where Urmila did item role in one of R G Verma movie before Rangeela came.[and that time I was wondering why Verma had taken Urmila for item number.]

I feel that there is something more than money, could be doing an item number with Amithabh itself is an honour.

I think this thread has been Hijacked.
Anyway watched "The rising.." yesterday.
I will give 3 star out of 5 to this movie. There is lot of fiction added and unnecessary songs..just to make it commercial..
Also The main character "Mangal pandey" has not been portrait that well. I will say "Gordon" character was very well depicted than Mangal Pandey. Very good acting by "Toby Stephens".
Rani's character was unnecessary addition..
Fight sequences are OK.

Thanks,
Trupti

When you say gun, I assume you mean a long gun, like a Rifle or a Musket, for it will be very difficult to use a hand gun (pistol) like a sword

It is not unusual for soldiers to use the guns like a sword in very close ranges. In fact, it is more effective that way. Ask someone who has served in military.

True. Final battle is won by hand to hand combat, where guns are used as swords. People who saw PVC on DD should know

Makes sense...you are less likely to kill your own troops in friendly fire.

And people! people! What is your beef with Aish?
It's her life, her career...she can do what she wants.
I think it is wonderful that even people other than Indians recognize her and think she's cool (Go Tony! ) , not withstanding her lack of acting skills

Of course YOU WILL DO WHATEVER YOU WANT, AND YOU CAN SHOUT AS MUCH AS YOU WANT TO
...but there are more civilized ways of criticizing someone than saying she is a 'high class Bollywood pros~!@#4.' or fit only for 'Kamathipura'

See what kind of movie sceens we have in India.............

Recently NEWTON, made a visit to earth to watch a movie. He watched a few Tamil movies and had his head spinning. He was convinced that all his logic and laws in physics were just a huge pile of junk and apologized for everything he had done.

In the movie starring Rajnikant Newton was confused to such an extent that he went paranoid.

Here are a few scenes:

1) Rajnikant has a Brain Tumor which, according to the doctors can't be cured and his death is imminent. In one of the fights, our great Rajnikant is shot in the head. To everybody's surprise, the bullet passes through his ears, taking away the tumor along with it and he is cured. Long Live Rajnikant.

2) In one of the movies, Rajni is confronted with 3 gangsters. Rajni has a gun but unfortunately only one bullet. Guess what he does... He holds a knife in his hand and throws at the middle gangster & shoots the bullet towards the knife. The knife cuts the bullet into two pieces and kills both the gangsters on each side of the middle gangster & the knife
kills the middle one.

3) Rajnikant is chased by a gangster. Rajni has a revolver but he has no bullets in it. Guess what he does. Nah not even in your remotest imagination. He waits for the gangster to shoot. As soon as the gangster shoots, Rajnikant opens the bullet compartment of his revolver and catches the bullet. Then, he closes the bullet compartment and fires his gun.
Bang... And the gangster dies....

This was too much for our Newton to take and he was completely shaken and he decided to go back. But he happened to see a movie for one last time and thought that at least one movie will follow his theory of physics.

The whole movie goes fine and Newton is happy that all in the world hasn't changed. Oops not so fast. The climax finally arrives. Rajnikant gets to know that the villain is on the other side of a very high wall. So high that Rajni can't jump even if he tries like one of those superman techniques that our heroes normally use. Rajni has to kill the villain because it's the climax. Newton dada is smiling since it is virtually impossible. Rajni suddenly pulls out two guns from his pocket (probably a backup). He throws one gun in the air and when the gun has reached the height of the wall, he shoots at the trigger of the first gun in air, with his second gun.
Now the first gun fires off and the villain is dead.

Newton gives up his Laws / Life?!

Pradip,

It's a plain Hindi..
If ketan mehta would have made movie on "Gandhiji", he would have put some dance sequence in that movie too so we would have watched "gandhiji" dancing in the movie...
I hope you are no more confused now...
