Last friday, I passed part I of the exam. Here is my score:

There are 64 questions in this exam. You answered 46 questions correctly which gives you a score of 71%.
PASSING SCORE: 57%YOUR SCORE: 71%TEST STATUS: Pass

Section Analysis Score %
Application Design Concepts and Principles..................................88 %
Common Architectures........................................................37 %
Integration and Messaging...................................................83 %
Business Tier Technologies..................................................50 %
Web Tier Technologies.......................................................62 %
Applicability of Java EE Technology.........................................88 %
Patterns...................................................................100 %
Security....................................................................62 %

I am a bit disappointed with the miserable score I got on common architectures. For the life of me I don't understand how that could have happened. I tought I had one and two-tier architectures all figured out but I found the questions relating to this very "ambiguis". The possible answers either didn't seem right or they all seemed right. Oh wel, maybe it's me.
I'm just happy I passed because, those were two very long hours last friday

I can tell you this: you better know your patterns ...

Can someone tell me if this score will already appear on the Sun Certification database website or will there only be a score after you passed all three of the exams ?

Regards,
Ronald Wouters

Congrats Ronald,

What are the resources that you use for web services?
And how time do you spend to the first part of the exam?

Thanks!

For webservices I read two things:
  • The Java EE tutorial
  • The tutorials on the javapassion.com website

  • http://www.javapassion.com/webservices/index.htmlI spent about three months preparing for the exam.

    Hi Ronald,

You said there is a new New MacGraw Hill SCEA Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for Java EE Study Guide.
I looked for it in Amazon but I only found the 310-051 one.
Where did you got it ?

    Hi Ronald,
Can you also point out the difficulty level of difference between the Whizlabs simulator questions and the actual questions? Was the exam more difficult than the Whizlabs or was it the other way round?

    Thanks,
    Ranga.

    Hi,

the book I used is this one.
I call it the "new" one because of the title "... for Java EE". I also have the "old" version of the same book, which has the title "... for J2EE".
The authors, at the time of writing probably didn't know yet the exam number was going to change to 52 instead of 51.

I must admit the Whizlabs simulator may have given me the wrong impression.
On the final exam I took with the simulator I had a score of 92% which gave me enough confidence to take the real exam. I found the real exam a lot more difficult than the simulator and my score was also much lower on the real deal... 71%

    Hope this helps.

    Regards.

    Well,
    maybe not entirely.
I must admit that during the final exam with the simulator, I "recognized" some of the questions of an earlier exam I took with the simulator. This must have given me an "unfair" advantage and a higher score as a result. This kind of situation may also give you a false sense of certainty so be aware of that. Make sure you're score on the final whizlabs exam is certainly above 90%. This will give you enough "margin of error" when you take the real exam.

    Regards
