why is it hard for us men to understand women?

Is it? For all men? Any woman? All the time? Or are there simply some cases of misunderstanding?

why are we so different from them?

First we need to agree that we *are* different, and I would object!

Is there some particular case you have in mind?

I'm not sure I understand Map's post

I've been watching my 2yo son and his interaction with girls the same age, and there does appear to be a difference. It is difficult to exclude social conditioning like boys get trucks and girls get dolls, but I cannot deny that my son has dolls but loves trucks. When he sees something he doesn't understand, it is his first reaction to hit it with a stick (more or less).

I don't believe the sample size is large enough, but given the same situation there does appear to be a natural difference in how they react.

Women are blindingly obvious. Which is not to say simple -- that's men. You're looking for secrets, that's your problem. Just look at what you see.

Mike: Women are blindingly obvious.

Come to think about it, I don't recall any psychologically complex woman. Only men can be complex.

Come on, Map...

Women can MAKE humans AND the food to feed 'em. I still can't understand why the horses, etc are not roaming free; having been replaced by men, as the new beast-of-burden. If I could make humans AND the food to feed 'em I'd rule the world ten X over...

Furthermore, I don't think young children even give a toss about "Who's their Daddy?". My 14 month-old only recently acknowledged my presence. I think it took the ability to walk, in conjunction with the fact that I give more leeway for his exploring, (puddles, monkey-bars, bugs, etc), than Mummy could. (Plus Mummy is preggers, so her mobility is limited, but he doesn't realize that ;-) ).

Further-Futhermore...
My wife says to me recently, "Just got a call from [Most recent single girlfriend to call...], and she was crying b/c the doctor said she should be hurrying up. I felt bad for her. Does that ever happen to you with your friends?"

ME: UH, ... [extended pause for effect]..., no. ??? ???

I just was out the the good-time buddies last night, (All in their forties), and I'd say they're happier than pigs in doo-doo. If I asked if men and women were equal, they probably say, "Who cares?"

Um... So out of what you wrote, what exactly is beyond your understanding?

A man was walking along a California beach and was in deep prayer to the Lord. He said, "Lord, you have promised to give me the desires of my heart. Please give a confirmation that you will grant my wish." Suddenly the sky darkened and the Lord, in a booming voice said, "I have searched your heart and determined it to be pure. I think that I can trust that you will not disappoint me. Because you have been faithful to me, I will grant you one wish." The man said, "I've always wanted to go to Hawaii, but I'm deathly afraid of flying and I get very sea sick in boats. Could you build a bridge to Hawaii, so I can drive there whenever I want?" The Lord laughed and said, "That's impossible! Think of the logistics! How would the supports ever reach the bottom of the Pacific? Think of the concrete and steel! Your request is very materialistic and disappointing. I could do it but it's hard for me to justify. Take a little more time and make another wish, one you think would honor and glorify Me." After much thought, the man said, "I"ve been married 4 times. My wives always said that I was insensitive to their needs. So I wish that I could understand women. I want to know how they feel and what they're thinking. I want to know why they cry and how to make them truly happy. That's my wish, Lord."Then, after a few minutes, God said, "You want two lanes or four on that bridge?"

one of the top 10 differences usually heard about average women is:
when they are upset about something(which usually is something you did or said, of which you do not have a clue at all), they resort to a state of silence and expects you to know about it.
Things doesnt work this way in a men's world, if you have a problem you speak it out, if you have a serious problem you punch it out :-)

As pointed earlier, It appears to be the social conditioning, boy plays with trucks, girls with dolls and the story goes on.

Its been going for ages that women have been delgated to take care of home, while the men brings the food, I guess things are changing a bit now.
Analogous to it, its not the programmer who rules the software company, it the CEO who does that. I guess it would be difficult for the women to rule, unless they all group under a feminist banner :-)

This is most retarded set of generalizations about male and female behavior I have read or heard since my living for a year in southern Wisconsin. Among turret-lathe operators and corn farmers, this conversation clearly makes sense. In places that sport fewer bars than street corners, proportionately less, or so I would hope.

Women are emotional, men are rational. Men hate to be emotional, and therefore it is difficult for them to rationalize emotional by nature females.
