New MacBook Pro!

After my typical period of consumer indecision, I took the plunge and got a new MacBook Pro! I went with the new "unibody" model -- a standard 15" configuration with 2.4 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. I ordered it from MacConnection when they were offering $100 off Apple's price, plus a $150 rebate, so $1750 total (with free shipping and no tax).

I'm really glad I went with the new model! The trackpad is unbelievably cool -- I probably won't be using a mouse with it. The screen is sharp and bright, and the performance is much improved over my old G4 PowerBook.

Congratulations! I know just how you feel; I replaced my old G4 with an MBP not too long ago.

Eliminate fossil fuel subsidies. (If you're not on the edge, you're taking up too much room.)

Trackpad update: Not only am I not using a mouse on the laptop, but I'm frustrated by not having this trackpad available on my desktop. I shouldn't be surprised. When Apple introduces something new, I usually think, "Well, that's interesting, but I probably won't get in the habit of using it." Then after trying it, I'm addicted almost immediately.

So how long before they start selling iTrack? A USB version of this trackpad as a mouse replacement for desktops?

Damn Apple! Going to work on a Windows machine is more difficult every day. If only I was paid by how many hours I sit watching a frozen hourglass on top of a half-rendered screen.

Thanks a bunch marc!

I told Kathy about this thread and now I'm guessing your innocent little post is going to cost me a couple of grand!

Despite all my pre-purchase indecision, I have no regrets on getting this model.

I was also hesitant about the glossy screen, but I'm happy to have been "forced" into it. It looks like "high-def."

Now I've got my hopes on a refreshed iMac running Snow Leopard in early 2009.

(Uh... Assuming I'm still employed in 2009. )

I agree. Here's the link: http://zeroturnaround.com/jrebel - it saves me about five hours per week
