You probably know that I'm REALLY, REALLY hoping for a Mac netbook to be announced in January!!

However, if Apple disappoints me, again, then I'm thinking about getting "another brand" and using some flavor of Linux. I have seen that someone just hacked OS X into a netbook but that doesn't seem like the way to go if you claim to be doing "important stuff".

So, I guess two questions:

- Any opinions on using a non-Apple, OS X, hacked machine?
- Any opinions on which flavors of Linux, that are netbook-available, would be the best for Java SE?

What? Giving up on a tablet? You know that new glass trackpad is just a testing ground for their tablets. Heh heh.

Hardly giving up, but you know, life is short, time moves on...

Anyway, the good news about these netbooks is that they cost only $300-$400 - so even though that's not pocket change, if Apple disappoints in January and I get a netbook, it won't be the end of the world if Apple comes thru 6 months from now.

Hey, here's a rumor to start! Perhaps Steve isn't giving the keynote so that someone else can announce the new Apple netbook - since Steve doesn't seem to be a big fan of netbooks.

Alas, no netbooks announced at the phil-in note. Just today I heard that it's not difficult to install OS 10 on some netbooks though...

A couple links (haven't read through the in their entirety):
