This is apparently why they always tell you to keep your seatbelts fastened until the captain has turned off the "fasten seatbelts" sign!

How exactly does this happen? Do you forget to put the parking brake on? Or perhaps you hit the gas pedal instead of the break pedal.

oooh.... I've done that! Okay, maybe not in an airplane, but in a great big giant buick station wagon... Had just gotten my license. Was parked in my friend's driveway, which had a slight downward slope into her garage. Stuck the car in reverse, floored the gas, only to crash through the garage door (missing her father's porsche by a few lucky inches) because it turns out I was in drive. Took me 10 years before I was even able to talk about it, I was that mortified. Now I think it's funny. I wonder how the pilot feels?

I had exactly that happen to me as I backed a freakin' 22-foot U-Haul into a 23-foot parking space. My buddy was standing behind me making huge "come on back" motions, and they didn't get any smaller just before they turned into "stop, you idiot!" motions. But I only put a little dent in that lady's BMW. You shouldn't park a Beamer on the street in Hoboken, anyway!

Life imitating art.

There is such a scene in the movie "Airplane".

The pilot was in Bin Laden training camp. But he dropped out.
