Tomcat Directory Help

I have an exploded application directory. What I want to be able to do is somehow deploy this to a subdirectory in my "webapps" folder. I'd like to be able to access it at a location like http://hostname:8080/~username/application . The problem I'm running into is that Tomcat only deploys applications at the top of the webapp directory (yes I can go edit the appbase in server.xml, but that still only limits me to one directory and I'd like to have several user directories). My application works fine when at the root of the "webapps" directory.

Does anybody know of a way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
