You could contribute to open-source projects. Useful article: http://opensource.ucc.ie/icse2002/HannRobertsSlaughterFielding.pdf Why participate in open source Java projects? -- You can learn from and enhance your coding skills by looking at others code. -- You can get feedback from others on your code. -- You can enhance your ability to understand problems and develop effective solutions for it. -- You can proudly mention your contribution on your resume. If you are still not convinced, go to http://seeker.dice.com/jobsearch and search for "open source". Where do I look for open source projects? -- http://www.sourceforge.net/ -- http://dev.java.net/ -- http://jakarta.apache.org/ -- http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/views/java/projects.jsp -- http://www.google.co.in/search?q=Apache+Java+projects -- https://www.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectList -- https://openjdk.dev.java.net/ -- http://developers.sun.com/javadb/ -- http://www.netbeans.org/ -- https://glassfish.dev.java.net/public/devindex.html -- http://www.ohloh.net/ -- http://www.freshmeat.net/ -- http://code.google.com/ Freelance work -- http://www.gofreelance.com/programming/java-programmer.html -- http://www.getafreelancer.com/projects/by-job/Java.html -- http://www.liveperson.com/experts/computers-programming/programming/java/

Presumably when you were working you had a network of coworkers and employers. Contact them and let them know if they have any projects that need an extra hand you are available. IMHO, working on an open-source project may get you some experience which may look good on a resume, but if you are looking for a job now, the people who know you and what your skills have to offer will probably pay off sooner.

thanks for your help. I have few questions. Currently I am staying in zurich, switzerland. 1.do I need any permission to work on any open source project? 2. can any body tell me how much experience is required to work in this project?

I think there was a miscommunication. An open source project is volunteer work, it's not a part time job. I'm not sure why it was recommended since it doesn't seem to be relevant to what you asked. If you indeed want a work at home job, you should look on job boards. Two good ones to start with are www.elance.com and www.guru.com. --Mark
