Naah. Just one good season and he'll be on the pedestal again. Not to forget several more millions in endorsements.

On the other hand, if he's just too bored of it all...but then, I think he probably likes playing cricket.

I thought The National Sport is Hockey!

That said let me also add that this so called sport, where nothing much happens for majority of the time except the participants (arguably called sportsmen) walking around talking to each other (often indulging in sledging as well) or polishing the shine on the ball (to extract 'reverse swing' or something similar using some newly discovered technique), should not be categorized as a team sport unlike soccer, hockey or basketball. The reason for its phenomenal growth in India is due to the amount of money pouring in. I blame the overzealous enthusiasm most Indians exhibit for this event as the reason behind the downfall of actual sport, be it a team event or otherwise.

N.B: My salute to Mr. Abhinav Bhindra who won India's first individual Olympic gold medal and that too for a far less popular sport.

Cheers,
Raj.

I think Tendulkar should go gracefully than hanging around just for few records or endorsements.

I was crazy about cricket while at school. Would be disappointed if India looses for few days.

Now I don not even bother catching whats going on.....It has become BORING

However I saw 20-20 only the last 2 or 3 overs per session in a competitive match.

Sachin Tendulkar, hes a God to millions of Indian !

There is a plenty of cricket remained in him , Just some wear and tear losses to his health which drag him to give his best .

A Legend !

Sachin Tendulkar.

He is not retired(from the world of cricket) yet???!!!

I thought he has retired

if sachin has retired in 2000, it would have confirmed a place for some 100 youths in Indian Cricket Team.

That`s the truth.

I feel young talent is more likely to suceed tournaments. Experience has proven to be nothing in last world cup, dump these old people they got enough for the entertaining people with bat if not by winning.
Ganguly was only guy who atleast helped us make to Finals of world cup, rest of them never rose to occassion, leave alone talent which is worthless if cant be used at right time when winning matters

You mean to say that they would have played 1 match each and then lost their place from the team.

Ganguly Retired : Ganguly was one of greatest assests Indian cricket found, though he had few contreveries surrounding his career at the end, he was most sucessful captain with great leardership qualities, we missed a world cup by a whink under his captaincy, He bought the most needed fighting spirit to team by reorganizing team with youngsters and he was aggressive captains who demonstrated himself with bat as well with speak.
It was time when most of the players contribution was faded by one entertaining performance of Tendulkar it was hard for some one to evolve as leader and to be able to carry every one for winning the matches it was done with great care by Ganguly.Ganguly is at par with performance in bat with Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid , his captaincy and leadership that distinguished him from them, Rahul and Tendulkar failed miserably as captains.

Happy Retirement Ganguly

I don't think I will watch cricket after Tendulkar retires. I only watched last day of recent India -Australia test match only because Sachin scored few runs.

Tendulkar entertained with bat at the begining of his career and his weakness being he can never perform under pressure, its no fun when you want to win the matches you see good few good strokes all around ground and you fall appart for one good ball.
but in mid of carrer he moved to opening batsmen because opening bats man have the least pressure. but most of time he was disappoingint when he was needed with bat he could not steer India through victory even though it was near, his popularity overshadowed many young talents psycologically unlike those of Ganguly who really stood apart. And these days he is no more entertaining any one can get him out and he scores a century in one of those odd matches where India already made to victory with others contribution

I felt really bad when i read this news in TV channels. All these years Cricket and Sachin have been synonyms for me. There was no fun watching cricket after sachin got out.
I remember whenever india were batting, first question everyone would ask was "Is sachin still there?" If sachin was there, there was hope. Thankfully now we have some players who can take responsibility and steer India home.
But still it hurts to thik that he going to retire some day.

As i write this message, sachin has marched past Lara's tally of runs in Test cricket. An emotional moment for a die hard fan like me......

Indian team might get 100 youths or more than that.. But none of them can provide the consistency as provided by Tendulkar.

If they get a century or two and appear in an ad film, thats it.. they never play their game after that. Due to various politics that's going around the Indian team and due to his personal health, Sachin's not able to play his natural game. And one more thing is the too much expectations from the viewers. If he comes to bat, they always want some magic from him, which can't be provided at all times.

Sachin can't be compared with any person in Indian team. He has provided lot of achievements to the Indian Cricket, which any cricketer would have never done at his situation!!

Probably we need players who can stand in tough times and win matches rather then create individual records.Entertaining with bat is good as long as those matches are won. more team captains like Kapil Dev , Saurav Ganguly.
Last world cup was classic example how talent and winning are different, how experience and leadership are different.
If you always play your game you can keep making records which most of players dont do if players like Mark Waugh,Gibbs,Jaya Surya played their own game and not for team they would have made lot more records.

If somebody comes and asks you whether "You are working for the company or Working for yourself?". Your answer would surely be "I'm working for myself" which would be a wise answer too, as it implies that, if I work for myself, my company would grow in virtue of it.

Similary, if Sachin was not playing for himself, India would not have grown as a strong team as it is like now. And one more thing, no one can play just for records. If anybody tries to play that way, they wouldn't achieve much. But if someone plays with good sportsmanship and team spirit, records or achievements will come in search of them, as in the case of Sachin.

Sachin falls to pressure most of times thats a different aspect all togather, apart from palying wonderful cricket,he failed miserably as captain. he is not fighter type of guy for team though he is excellent cricketer. fails at team play he can start to entertain you when he has no pressure and make make world records.

Some young players like Youfaj, Dhoni, Irfan they have stood many times to steer us to victory scoring the last run needed for victory.

Sachin is great cricketer there is no statement needed but Team work and Winning are not feathers in his cap

Congrats guys...
India recorded a thumping victory over Australia. And one thing that makes me feel better is that Sachin played a good role in it. He played a lovely innings that snatched the initiative from Oz. After we were reduced from 146/1 to 162/4. He took control of the game and helped India post a good total.

In last match also he saved the game which we looked like loosing after getting reduced to 24/2 chasing 299.

He is using his experience and producing good results.

Sachin also took a terrific catch. If he dropped that there would have been more tongues wagging. I was bit surprised that Dhoni got MOM.

Australian media is now asking warne to come back.

India just played 3 games in the last world cup. And Sachin wasn't the only person who didn't play well. It was the entire Indian Team which didn't play well. So, no one can blame Sachin in individual.

We reached close to winning World Cup twice in last 12 years (1996,2003). And both the times sachin performed like a superhuman. A major reason of those good WC outings was Sachin's batting.

Captaincy : Azharuddin was credited with saying "Nahin jeetega! Chote ki naseeb main jeet nahin hai!" (which translates into: "He won't win! It's not in the small one's destiny".)

Sachin says selectors need to resepect seniors , its fun he did'nt say anything when Ganguly was dropped. and later says Seniors need respect because he is the guy next people will point finger to quit.
I feel its other way Seniors should respect Game there needs to be professionalism and truthful approach when you cannot perform when team needs you must get out respectfully then allow some one to kick you out. Adam Gilcrist was classic example way he quit One days. What more these Seniors need they have played for 16 or more years.
When Personal career is above the game and want to play regardless of weather you perform or not (At right times) , we hear statements of kind sachin is saying right now

For some reason Indians don't care for the match/team. They just want to watch individual make records (that is the reason why Indian movies with heroes performing super human tasks are successful at BO). Also when we like someone we don't apply logic for any of his/her actions.(so we have things like cricketers singing and dancing with stars yuk

It is like taking advice from a Dr about stocks. We assume that if a person is good at something he is good at everything.

Till that way of thinking goes away it will like this in all fields.

If there is no media makeups for Sachin Tendulkar for the past 20 years,
about 100 or 125 young bloods could have find a place in the Indian Cricket Team.
In Australia, Mike Hussey was included in the Australian International Squad only after scoring 25000 first class runs.

Thats the difference between Indian Cricket Team Selection and the Australian Cricket Team Selection.
