I am a software engineer passed out in 2004.
I am working in a quiet well software firm related to hospitality industry.
But i am codeing only in Webl(a scripting langauge on java platform ,devoloped by compaq). But to devolop my career i want to go into the depth of j2ee.I know a bit of java, servlet and jsp(not much though). But in my company there will be no such oppourtinity in j2ee.But unless i work on real time project i cannot shift, as in interviews now a days they give a lot of stress on real life experience. Can some senior members guide me how i can progress.
What should be my steps.Should i make my java, jsp, servlet skills Finner by lot of reading.Should I take certification.Or something related to doing a project.
Please, please advice.Any thing will be highly appreciated.

I dont know about career, but the fastest way to reach a hospital, is by standing in the middle of a highway.

This is probably not what you are looking for, but IMHO, the more valuable people are the ones with domain knowledge. I am not saying to not learn J2EE, but I would suggest that you take an interest in your clients, and learn the industry too.

I assume then you have around 1year exp by now.
1. See what Stuart said
2. In the offtime, try to learn core J2ee and keep applying for new jobs. In US/India there is always lots of opportunities.

I liked the industry related knowledge suggestion. I'm in the insurance industry and we are encouraged to pick up LOMA training. You might see if there is any business side certification or training that's short of trying to become and RN or hospital administrator or something.

This is the exciting industry to work.I think you don't need any other than live experience.Get to know more about business processes, how to make functional designs, how to map functional to technical designs. You will be benifitted in long run.
