Hi all, I downloaded my SCJD assignment and I got a weird feeling about the time frame to work on it. In the specifications, it DID NOT say this explicitly. But in my email from Sun Micro customer support it stated:
Once you have logged in, follow the steps below: Select the test history button Select the assignments button Follow the links to download your assignment. You have one year to complete the SCJD assignment.
Yet the Sun Java Cert page here does not say it has a one year time limit. So which one is correct?? K. SCJP5

Unless it has changed recently (in the last year or so), I don't think that there is any time limit on finishing the assignment. The Sun Certified Enterprise Architect part II assignment now has a limit of a year, where there used to be an unlimited time period for completion, so perhaps it is the same for the SCJD assignment now as well? The safest thing to do is write a mail to Sun Training, to ask them to clarify the situation. [ December 19, 2008: Message edited by: Mark Smyth ]

I don't think the assignment has the limit. But the voucher for the essay exam has 1 year limit. Jeffry Kristianto Yanuar (Java Instructor) SCJP 5.0, SCJA, SCJD (UrlyBird 1.3.2)

I just got email from Sun that the developer assignment time limit has recently changed to 1 year from date of download.
You are given one year from the date of download to finish your assignment. The old policy was to have an unlimited amount of time to complete it.

What if we can't make it in one year ? Do we must pay again ? Is there any reason about the new policy ? Thanks god I already get certified. Jeffry Kristianto Yanuar (Java Instructor) SCJP 5.0, SCJA, SCJD (UrlyBird 1.3.2)

I hope they haven't changed the rules. I've been developing for over a year (school and work have gotten in the way)... From the Sun Certification FAQ
How can I have my exam voucher extended past the expiration date? When exam vouchers are purchased you have up to one year from the date of purchase to use it. Each voucher is valid for one exam and may only be used at an Authorized Prometric Testing Center in the country for which it was purchased. Exam expiration dates cannot be extended. You must register and take your exam prior to the expiration date of your voucher. Neither Prometric, Authorized Prometric Testing Centers, nor Sun Microsystems are responsible for vouchers that are not redeemed by the expiration date. For the Sun Certified Developer (SCJD) Assignment (CX-310-252A) and the Sun Certified Enterprise Architect ( SCEA) Assignment (CX-310-300A), there is no time limit for completion or upload of the assignment to the Certification Database.

I think the new policy only applied to new participants. Maybe you can ask Sun regarding this. Jeffry Kristianto Yanuar (Java Instructor) SCJP 5.0, SCJA, SCJD (UrlyBird 1.3.2)
