Hello,On December 13th i cleared SCDJWS exam.
Exam was more on a theoretical side and of average difficulty level.
Do let me know if you have any questions concerning the same.
Do follow RMH book religiously.I know its bit boring but amount of information it provides is enormous.
Also i know its a java forum but can anyone point to any information about VXML certification?

That will be of great help

Salil

Congratulation. Great score.
Please tell me how much we should have practical exposure before appearing SCDJWS exam?
SCDJWS is based on JAX-RPC which is replaced by JAX-WS.Then what is use learning JAX-RPC?
What is difference between JAX-RPC and JAX-WS?

Thanks in advance.

Sanjay.

I really think that Javaranch is not just place that where you get all the information on variety of technologies but it should be a place where you should also help others with their problems.
I think we should also give back to the forum in a way to help others too.It works both ways.Isnt it?
As regards WS,people who are new to it just prepare for exam as the syllabus is i think.
You will get your basic concepts clear in this way and you will remain focussed. You can always build upon it when new exam comes. There's no point waiting for new exam and then preparing.Go for it.Fetch RMH and start with basic XML Schema. Its nice book though a bit descriptive. But when you are new to technology,it helps that way.
If you have any queries please let me know.I will be more than happy to give back to forum which has helped me clear SCJP,SCWCD,SCDJWS.

Hi i think if you are starting with WS,RMH book is good. Also keep looking for small small code examples of internet. You can get it easily.Try and run sample web service applications as you go along.
As regards RMH book it should be available.I stay in Pune and its easily available. What kind of help you need in that from me?

i want to create one sample application for inserting data in DB using web service in java. i done with inserting data..but not changing with each and every request? If you are receiving hundreds of requests a second for your temperature service, for example, you might want to send back cached data for most requests, and only update the data every 5 minutes or so. so i want to know how this cache creating for this type of application???

Check Amazon.com or your local bookstore. I think it is available only on hardcopy.

They do deliver to India.

The number of days depends on how much you pay them for the delivery; probably from 3 days to 4 weeks.

Hello All,

Did Sun Microsystems has already come up with SCJDWS 5.0 ? I heard that they have released a beta version. But did any one hear about when they are releasing the actual test (Not the beta). Also, at http://javacertification.info/ it is mentioned that 6 to 12 of experience as a recommended prerequisite to take the test. But I do not have any experience in webservices and haven't worked on any project so far. Will that make any difference to me in preparation for this certification ?

Please advice.

Dont worry about 1.4 or 5.0.Just go and give exam when you prepared.Focus on prep rather than thinking about 1.4 and 5.0 will take some time to be out.So go for 1.4 for now.Just a suggestion

Hi

I dont think there are some secret or special things one needs to do as regards cracking it.
For anyone new to WS have some patience to understand concepts first, digest them and then go for certification preparation.
Web Services is tremendous technology and things like WS Session WS Eventing WS Addressing WS Transfer are great to work on.
RMH book is bit boring but is very good in content.
Go slow but follow a definite path.
I hope i answered your question
I have also cleared but still i have to get more hands on Web Services. So learning never ends.

Hi Salil, besides RMH's book, what books you used in your preparation?

And how many years you have experience in Web Services? Is this exam good for who has little experience in implementing Web Services?

Hi Salil,

I'm planning to appear for this certification. From the forum, I understand that RHM would be the best book to follow. But as I understand JAX-RPC has been replaced with JAX-WS which has got better support and enhanced features as listed out in this link
JAX-RPC Vs JAX-WS

Could you please help me on the following points -
1. What is latest version of SCDJWS one should go after
2. Shall I study JAX-WS or JAX-RPC?
3. Which book to refer for the same?

I will really appreciate an early response
Thanks,
Abhishek

I think if you are starting from scratch, you can look at upcoming SCDJWS exam 1.5.But for that you wont get much material and also its not out yet.So it may take longer. But latest exam will cover things like JAX-WS which we use in place of JAX RPC.
So start preparing and rest things will follow

RMH is one to clear the basics.Rest you can look at examples on web and other notes on Java ranch
