As you can imagine, rather a few more movies than that have been made in English. What kind of movies are you interested in?

The greatest films ever made? Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Godfather, Dr. Strangelove, Pulp Fiction, Rear Window...

Action/Adventure? Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, Alien, Back to the Future, Total Recall, The Fifth Element...

Comedy? Young Frankenstein, The African Queen, Forrest Gump, This is Spinal Tap...

Romance? Singing in the Rain, Annie Hall, Bringing up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, The Princess Bride...

Horror? The Shining, Psycho (1960)...

Musicals? The Sound of Music, Cabaret, West Side Story, Holiday Inn...

Many of these belong in multiple categories (Romantic Comedies, Adventure/Comedy/Romance).

When you've seen all of these, come back and ask for more.

By watching Chinese movies I realized that China may have less gravity(about 1/2) as compared to other parts of the world.

Another good American movie is Mullholland Drive (2001).

Not because of this in particular, but there's a good kissing scene between the new King Kong girl Naomi Watts and the first Latina to win the Miss USA title, Laura Harring.

The lord of the rings are absolutely wonderful. The wars depicted are really fantastic. Can some body suggest me a movie which has a smilar war sequence. I am not interested in morder day gun wars like saving private ryan or black hawk down but more in some medivial war fare.I will be very happy if some body can suggest me some such kind of movie.

Unfortunately none of the above list are English movies - they are American!

Britain does have a high quality movie industry- its just nowhere near the size of Hollywood! Check out some of these for real "English" movies:

"Full Monty" - Why this film didnt get oscars ahead of Titanic is astounding! Its a fantasticaly funny, but tragic tale of a bunch of out of work steelworkers who faced with the despressing reality of unemployment find their own way of generating some money - they set up a strip show.

"Love Actually" - A great xmas movie! Feel good warm and fuzzy inside after watching this multithreaded tale of people and how love affects them.

"Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" - Drug deals, Gambling debts, Londons criminal underworld exposed in a hilarious heist story.

Theres plenty more of course... but those are a few to get you started and give you a feel for British Cinema!

I'd have assumed from the examples given that the original poster was referring to the English language. Which one might guess is not the poster's first language. Not that there's anything wrong with your recommendations - I enjoyed Lock... quite a bit. But let's not overlook the intended point of the post.

Two which come to my mind are Kingdom of Heaven and The Messenger. Both are set in the real middle ages, no magic if that's what you want. I also thought both were good films, not just their battle sequences.

There are some Englanders who still think the word "English" appertains only to them. Not any more fella, not any more.

well, this Lord of the Rings story concluded in 3 releases, but I consider it a 9 hrs. long movie....So it depends on one whether he calls the second release-->Lord of the Rings PART2..
and if you dont agree with it and believe it is more like a 9 hrs. long movie(like me) then ....NO OTHER PART or release after the last one "Lord of the Rings-THE RETURN OF THE KING"

Hey,

I actually thought that "Troy" is simply a good movie to catch for those old old days fighting scenes..

In fact, there are several nice ones too.. there are also some anime which i think the graphics are fantastic, like "Final Fantasy - Advent Children".. but, if you are not into it, you can probably take a look at its animations.. its simply so realistic...
