close window after performing action

I am using struts 1.2. I have opened a new window to update the price of a commodity. The update query is fired thru the Action class when the update button is clicked. it is a html:submit button. After the query is fired, I wish to close this window. I have already tried using JS window.close() on the onclick event. But then the window closes without executing the query.
Any help on this is welcome.

We're pleased to have you here with us here at JavaRanch, but there are a few rules that need to be followed, and one is that proper names are required. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.
