Hi all,..

I just wanted to know how frequently do all you people run anti-spyware and anti-virus softwares???

I am actually updating the definitions and running it in every week-end.
Do you guys think it is very frequent ???

I have spybot, adaware and spyware doctor (anti-spyware)
norton's anti-virus

Thanks to all..

PS: By the way i also have the zonealarm firewall...

Most anti-spyware and anti-virus software downloads updates automatically, so I don't know how often it's updated on my computer.

I have Norton Anti-Virus and Microsoft Anti Spyware, and I use the Windows XP firewall and I also have an ADSL router which has a built-in firewall. I use Firefox which doesn't download and run ActiveX controls from websites.

NAV and MS Anti Spyware by default schedule themselves to run about once a week, but in practice I run a full scan maybe once a month.

I've never had a virus and seldom have spyware. But I don't download and install a lot of software on my computer.

I always recommend weekly. I tell new users to run things on slow Sunday mornings while they're drinking coffee reading the sports page.

Extra note: look into modifying your hosts file to block already known bad sites. You can use the pre-fab one that is in spybot. Go to advanced, tools, add host file.

How did you get MS Anti Spyware? Is it in the market already?

Thanks a lot guys

I asked this question, because these days almost everyday i perform live update in Norton's anti-virus 2006, it is finding new definitions,.. in which case, in 1 week i have added quite some new definitions, which always prompts me to run it..

The same with adaware, spybot, spyware doctor.. though not everyday you find new definitions atleast once a week, ,.. which made me feel , every week-end i have to update all definitions and run all the software..

Thanks

I don't have any of this software of which you speak. Where can I get the RPMs?

You haven't progressed your machine to an advanced enough state to require them, not until you install Wine. At that stage I believe you will be able to get full use of the applications mentioned.

Personally I have a personal machine which gets used 9-5 (ish) for work and gets checked about once a week. I have a support machine connected to the net for about a week a fortnight (used for 24hr support) and it gets updated and checked nightly.
