Watching a news in any Indian channel sucks, this "breaking news" item which they have copied from CNN, BBC is for any small news like "Priyanka Gandhi is Pregnant" watch out any hindi news channels they are all same I would like to call them "aaj tak style", star news is one step ahead they remix the news with hindi movies snapshots and trailors. Sports specially cricket their is lot of drama one news channel I am not able to remember the name presents the sport news which is hosted by one former cricketer who holds the bat and show how should tendulkar have played to shoaib in the ball he got out rubbish. They all seems to be bunch of dumb morons, I am really surprised how news quality has gone down in the past few years is it because the people like to see such rubbish and channels are just selling the news without any responsibility. Crime shows I am really astonished how they have glamourised the crime with all those crime shows "Jurm ke prayojak hain alan falan" "The Crime is sponsored by xyz" seems to be that are actually sponsoring crime. Few news channels have also started programs on religion now what those news channels have to do with the religion. This is my opinion on news channels. What do you feel about Indian news channels ?.

I never watched this nonsense.I stopped watching Indian news channels after 1999.Problem is people like news of shallow depth and people's interest doesn't go beyond glamor world, cricket, crime, few politicians.Hence instead of covering malaria infected people or farmer suicides, media gives coverages Ms India Canada!!
People say Rajdeep Sardesai is intelligent. But to me,he and his questions appear mediocre.
To avoid frustration ,stop watching TV.

I think we all need a daily dose of news, using print media is time consuming, I like to watch news for atleast half an hour a day but yes it is very frustrating. Our president rightly said media should present the positive news.

You must watch it, if I am not wrong then it belongs to your favourite TOI

AW I think rt now only watchable channels are "Headlines" or "CNN-IBM".

If you ask then my favourite Indian channel is Headline, but CNN-IBM seems to be OK.
I think best news channel still is BBC.

As of late I find that the sting operations done by some credible news channel is really nice. I guess they cater to all hence you might find news that might be irrelevant to you but might interest someone else.

I like Star News and find that theya re quite responsible.

On the contrry I would say that the news channel have really done a good job. Earlier it was only DD and it was goverment owned so there was harldy nay much news apart from how well the govt. is doing.

The last time I was in India, I was happy to see the variety of channels available but disappointed with the quality of presentation of the news media. I am surprised TOI has such a negative image. Before I left India in the early nineties, TOI and Indian Express were my favourite newspapers and I do not recollect them displaying banal news or vulgarities. When did it start to deteriorate? In India, it is a challenge to pick up an entertaining serial from the plethora that the channels spawn. I liked Jaspal Bhatti a lot. One of my favourites was the episode where he makes a "Horror" movie and ends up winning an award for the "best comedy" movie. After watching the news, that would lighten me up.

I doubt on this statement.

True, that DD was owned by Govt., but there were some good news reporter like Nalini Singh (if I am not wrong), Ashok Dua etc... who used to bring quality news.
True that these programme were never part of NEWS as such but usually they got the time slot in late night(after 10:00pm)

When I want to lighten up a bit or when there's no good comedy show on , I turn to Star News. They are hilarious - Its more a comedy channel than News Channel, and none of the presenters are "hot".

Hmm you mean we have to watch those news channels with different mind set, for comedy shows watch start news, for horror shows I think "Aaj Tak" is pretty good.

I agree wholehertedly!! City Times (Pune Times) is quite a joke and as cheap/frivolous as you get. A tabloid would be more sensible as compared to TOI's City Times. And these days their "liberal thinking" probably means 'liberty from thinking'!!
