JBoss in Action - distributed transaction handling

The most complex topic I have faced working with Enterprise applications was the handling of "distributed transactions" in a WS-enabled world from within a Rule Engine.

I wonder if the authors could hint how using JBoss we can handle two-phase commit, distrubuted transactions and conversations.
Is it possible to link the WS-layer with the persitence layer in this?
On top of that: is it possible to control this from within a Rule Engine?
