no Apple netbook, so Linux or maybe an old iBook?

We have news of the new HP mini 2140 (with an optional 1,366 x 768 screen). So, I'm wondering about one of these babies, running some sort of Linux

vs.

an old iBook G4. (maybe 1.2 GHz, 768 ram, 30 gig, running 10.4.11)

They have about the same price tag (~ $550). The iBook is a bit bigger and heavier - only 1024 x 768

Is there anything important that the iBook won't run? Any thoughts? Ideas?

Oh, I forgot, Pauline brings up the idea of hacking OSX into an existing netbook - seems a little dicey, but I'm open to thoughts there too.

Eliminate fossil fuel subsidies. (If you're not on the edge, you're taking up too much room.)

Sure. I only use it for surfing, email and other light work and it's fine for that.

Heck, the G3 (Snow) iMac in my kitchen (on which I am typing this) is still up to those simple tasks.
