support for MySQL ENUMs in hbm2hbmxml and hbm2java

Can anyone tell me how to generate MyClass.hmb.xml and MyClass.java files that will include support for MySLQ Enum column type? I'm using Jdk5 mode (no ejb annotations), and these tools generate the corresponding property as "string". Instead, I'd like hbm2hbmxml to force use/creation of a corresponding Java Enum. Is there any way to do this without manually modifying the generated hbm.xml or java files?

thanks!

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
