Hello All,

I've tried to install Apache Tomcat 6 on my Windows Vista Home Edition System.

During the set-up, I a dialog box pops up that suggests that I abort the set-up and check my settings and permissions. If I select ignore Tomcat doesn't install properly.

I'm sure I'm not the first one to have this problem, but I couldn't find similar references when I searched for this problem.

My hunch is that it's something trivial, but I don't even know what to try to fix this problem.

Regards,

Steve

Welcome to JavaRanch

I think it would be appropriate to move this thread to our Tomcat forum; it isn't really a "Java in General" question.

Personally, I would avoid the installation EXE file and download the zip file instead. Then installation becomes a single step - unzip the zip file. I recommend you do not install in Program Files or Documents and Settings - spaces in the directory names can cause issues with some Java libraries. I unzipped mine into c:\apps\Java\tomcat-6.0.18. The only configuration you need is to set JAVA_HOME to a JDK installation directory. To start it, open a command prompt, 'cd' to the bin directory, and enter: startup
