Woooo!

After a short wait of 135 years, Reading FC are finally in the top division! Its so strange - next season we'll be playing the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool. I still can't believe it.

Great news.
135 years is a long time...
I've heard recently that they will be promoted to Premier league and I remembered the name. You were talking about that club here at md.

After having been in 2nd league for some years, Borussia Mnchengladbach (my favourite) might make it again to UEFA Cup in .. hm... well... 2007/8.
You are invited for a match Borussia Mnchengladbach - Reading in UEFA
(or in CL-> one never knows )

You've finally got the opposition to match your big, posh stadium . I remember watching The Royals about 5/6 years ago when they were in the 2nd division (playing Bristol City if I remember right). It was a slightly surreal experience being one of maybe 3000 people sitting in the corner of a c29000 seater stadium. It was made even more surreal when Tony Rougier came on - a player I last saw playing (not very well!) for Raith Rovers!

Always good to get a little success.

Indeed. Reading are one of the oldest clubs in England, so its about time that we have our turn in the top division!

Absolutely, you never know. If you went back in time 20 years and told a Reading fan who was standing with just 3,000 other people in a falling down rust heap of a stadium that the club would reach the top division and regularly fill their 24,000 all-seater stadium they would think you're bonkers! If Reading can get to the top division, maybe the UEFA cup isn't as big a step.

I'm looking forwards to that game

Hmmm, I wonder if I was at that game. I used to have a season ticket there up until about 6 years ago (when I moved away from the area), so its possible. I certainly saw a lot of dire games watched by only a handful of people, back when "The Rouge" was one of our best striking options.

I quite liked him as a player. Totally useless (for us at least), but it was good to watch a player who was still committed and tried hard despite that. I wonder what happened to him?

Good luck, good too see some different teams in the top English league. Even if you last for one session, should be good for the club and fans.

And even better Sunderland are to be demoted - I don't have anything against the club or players other than they are my clubs local rivals.

Anyone notice how football seems to be moving south, I mean the teams around London are attracting the most investment - maybe these clubs can have reasonably small stadiums, and rely on the vast number of people in the south east to pay TV subscriptions - just a thought.

That's it - even if we loose every game it will still be worth it. I don't think we will loose every game though, I think Reading will be able to surprise a few people next year. It all depends how much the squad can be strengthened. Currently Reading have a very good first-11, but hardly any cover.

Also people in the south can probably pay more money. It seems that teams in the south are increasingly targeting wealthy middle class fans, where as teams in the north still rely on their traditional, often poorer, fans. Perhaps potential investors see the more wealthy and more populous south-east as being a better place to try and make a profit on their investment. Which is still unlikely, I doubt that there's as many as three clubs in the whole country who make a profit. Maybe a lot of these investors are also business men who are drawn towards London.

Football is a funny business. Its a shame that so many clubs which have existed in communities for so long are reliant on the whims of a handful of business men who often don't really care about them.
